SA’s newest 100% open-access food and drink festival, the Adelaide Food Fringe, opens today with a 10-day program boasting around 150 diverse events across South Australia from Friday the 7th of May to Sunday 16 May.
Celebrating and supporting food and beverage businesses, communities and Foodbank (who receive 10% of all net registration fees collected), the new festival presents South Australia’s food and drink culture in a program of events including special dinners, cultural celebrations, picnics, festivals, exhibitions, talks, cooking classes, wine, gin, beer tastings, tours, food trails, vegan events, breakfasts, future food explorations and more.
Charity partner Foodbank SA, kick off the festival with their ‘Women of Influence’ luncheon on Friday 7 May featuring Senator Penny Wong, Ali Clarke, Leah Itsines and Jessica Wishart.
Other events on opening day include a Friday Flammekueche and wine event at Geoff Merrill Wines’ Mount Hurtle cellar door, a Prancing Pony matched degustation at Siberia restaurant and the Neighbourhood Recipe Bonanza at the Pear Coffeehouse in Alberton where people can contribute secret recipes for a crowd-soruced Food Fringe cookbook and share old cookbooks in a special community cookbook library. While down the road at Pirate Life Brewery, the Panzerotti Bar will be hosting a Taste of Puglia food event.
Mother’s day options are plentiful with around 20 events in the program including a mother’s day event inspired by Mediterranean and Latin American street food at Alimentary eatery in Brighton, vegan Greek street food icon’s Staazi and Co at Patritti Wines, Gin cocktails and high tea at Hains & co and a Paint and Sip event by Brush at Pirate Life brewery.
Another festival program stream and initiative supported by Pirate Life Brewing is being billed as “International Pub Week” from 9-16 May. With over 30 events, the Food Fringe’s IPW stream aims to shine a special spotlight on Pubs and their contribution to the cultural, social and culinary life of SA.
IPW events include Pirate Life’s popular Brewer’s Shout initiative heading out of the brewery and into 9 different venues for a unique meet the brewer and taste the brew experience. Other events as part of IPW include Flavours of Asia at the Semaphore Hotel, Tastings and Tunes at the Hilton, Paella and Majella at the Walkers Arms Hotel and a classic Meat Tray Raffle at the Stag Hotel.
Peter Teakle wines in Port Lincoln, Loco’s Mexican in Victor Harbor and The Watervale Hotel head some regional fine dining, degustations and feasts with Chianti, Nonna’s Cucina, Mercato, Melt and many more registered for Adelaide.
The festival closes with a host of events on Sunday 16 May including free and family friendly events in Norwood (food secrets on the green), the Aldinga Community picnic, Hayes Honey Open day and a closing party at The Stag hotel that includes FREE cooking Sierra Leonean, Pakistani and CWA cooking demonstrations thanks to the generous support of City Rural Insurance Brokers.

“It’s been a 4 years in the making, which included a COVID forced cancellation last year, so Friday is going to be a very special day.
“To see 150 events registered, over 20 nationalities represented and so many people embrace and support our festival concept is a really humbling feeling.
“The Adelaide Food Fringe is a non-curated festival so all credit for the depth , bredth and diversity of events must go to South Australia’s wonderful food and beverage businesses and communities that shared their ideas and food culture in our festival.
