The inaugural Adelaide Food Fringe is almost upon us, and with our official program launch now available we understand there can be a lot you want to know without searching through every event! We’ve come up with a list of free Food Fringe events that are great for the whole family to enjoy and won’t cost the bank!

Note that while these events are free to enter, you will need to purchase any additional food or drink so please bring cash or card with you.

FRIDAY

Pirate Life Brewery Tours (all weekend)

Starting the Adelaide Food Fringe with a bang! Come see how their award-winning craft beer is made with free guided tours of their new brewery across the Food Fringe weekend. Learn about Pirate Life’s beer, people, philosophy, history and experience what happens behind the scenes from brew to pack in the nation’s best new brewery – plus you’ll get to taste the product after.
When: Tours daily from 12, 2, 4 and 6pm

Green Brick Road – Vegan Food Trail (all weekend)

Presented by Vegan Festival Adelaide, this vegan food trail is the first of its kind in Adelaide! With the growing demand of plant based and vegan food in SA, there’s a fantastic range of options for breakfast, lunch and dinner across the state. For V-curious tastebuds or vegan veterans, there are $5 specials at many venues so you can tick off the trail all weekend long.
‘Check in’ using the hashtag #veganaff to be in the running for great vegan prizes!

Hunt & Gather: An Exhibition of Hospitality (all weekend)

Celebrating Adelaide’s diverse communities through the history of food! An immersive and interactive multimedia exhibition takes us through time with stories from our rich past and embracing the new. The opening event is on Friday; meet the community members in person and taste delicious ‘piragi’ and Persian tea.
When: Friday 3 April at 5:30pm, Saturday April 4 and Sunday April 5 both at 10am

Food, Wine & Cooking at Home Living Expo (all weekend)

Showcasing all that is Home Entertaining, this event has everything including the kitchen sink! Explore food products, beverages, kitchen accessories and cookware, with heaps of cooking demos, inspiration and sampling. Foodbank SA will present a cooking demonstration with celebrity chefs Ben Trobbiani and Mandy Hall.
When: Friday, Saturday and Sunday from 10am-5pm

Flavours of Campbelltown Food Trail (all weekend)

Perfect if you want to go your own way and at your own pace. This food trail takes you on a journey to discover the diverse food and drink culture that is Campbelltown; reawaken your love of pizza and wine with your partner or head for coffee and cake with the family! Suitable for all ages and available throughout the whole Food Fringe weekend.

Message on a Bottle Exhibition

Presented by The Bob Hawke Prime Ministerial Centre and School of Art, Architecture and Design, UniSA. Wine labels are South Australian masterpieces and this exhibition will have you looking at ‘Past, Present and Future’. Showcasing the historical, social and cultural impact of South Australian wine label design artefacts curated from a span of 30 studios over 50 years.
When: Friday 3 April and Saturday 4 April 9am-5pm

Fizzy Friday

Fridays are for celebrating the end of the working week, and with Fizzy Friday coming up at Food Fringe, help support Bird In Hand wines while doing it. Enjoy live acoustic music from 5pm followed by a live party band from 8:30pm till late. The perfect event if you want to let off some steam and support local, at your local!

Onka Open Weekend

Put that green thumb to the test in the Onkaparinga region community gardens! Head to one of more than a dozen and even set up your own community or verge garden. A great chance for the kids to get their hands dirty and learn about growing your own food for a sustainable future.

Vin Vino Wein Wine – Celebrating South Australia’s Migrant Cultures with Wine

A pop-up wine event hosted in the beautiful courtyard of the South Australian Migration Museum to celebrate the positive impacts made by migrant communities on South Australia’s wine industry. Souvenir wine glasses are available for $5 for those wishing to taste and purchase wines.

SATURDAY

Pirate Life Panzerotti Day

Craft beer and amazing southern Italian street food calls for it’s own party! Head to Pirate Life to see Maurie Gagliardi, of the Panzerotti Bar and Matteo Giordano, head chef and owner of award winning café restaurant Pane e Latte bring you the best panzerotti in Adelaide! A day full of Italian goodness, local craft beer with vegan and vegetarian options? Not to be missed. When: Saturday 4 April at 11am

Cooking with Food Scraps

A great initiative on learning how to not waste food! Coming to the Adelaide Central Market, this event is a wonderful way for your kids to learn how to appreciate food and take on waste-free living. This workshop will take you through simple solutions to common food waste issues, stuff that our grandparents had down-packed!

Delicious Desserts

Enjoy a fantastic dessert at Ardrossan and give your taste buds a sensation! Fabulous creations from the ladies of the South Australian Country Women’s Association, so savour a sweet treat on the lawns by the Post Office. No pre-sale ticket but a $5 door charge applies.

SUNDAY

Tastes from the Horn of Africa

Bringing together 30 years of African refugee settlement in Adelaide, this celebration of Ethiopian, Eritrean, Somali and South Sudanese cultures will have you hooked! Discover a community of flavoursome food, delicious drinks and enjoyment for the whole family. Take some gold coins to sample these incredible treats!

Hayes Honey Autumn Open Day

Ever wanted to know where your honey comes from? We know you probably haven’t tasted it in its purest form either, right? Thanks to Hayes Honey, bring the family along to the hive! Local, raw, pure honey is where it’s at; see the beehives, stock up on their award-winning honeycomb and chat with the beekeepers!

Food Secrets at the Green

Presented by City of Norwood, Payneham and St Peters, this market-style event features a delicious display of authentic produce, fresh ingredients and pantry staples. Enjoy the local area with your family and bring along some goodies, have wine tastings, watch cooking demonstrations, enjoy the live music and see cooking classes for the kids.

Fire and Spice

Bringing the heat to Adelaide this year, Fire and Spice Festival celebrates all things hot and spicy! With food trucks, talks, cooking demos and more, this event isn’t too hot to handle. Great for the kids with indoor and outdoor areas while parents can put their taste buds to the test! Try new cuisines, flavours and spices from around the world.

Ukranian Easter Bazaar

Experience a world of eastern Europe and start to get into the spirit of Easter with these classic dishes. Enjoy some traditional Ukrainian delicacies such as varenyki (potato dumplings), holubtsi (cabbage rolls), borscht (beetroot soup), paska (Easter bread) and more, just like Baba (Grandma) used to make!

Picnic in the Park

A celebration of sustainable food at Tusmore Park! Make good food choices by thinking of what’s good for the planet, for yourself and the future at Picnic in the Park. This event is an opportunity to support local gardeners and producers, bringing food you make from scratch and eating on compostable or reusable crockery. Making a difference one meal at a time!

Community Picnic

Just like Picnic in the Park, only in Aldinga! Head to this event with your picnic basket, compostable crockery and homemade treats in tow. Book your spot for this free event and spend some time with family and friends while taking in the surroundings and enjoying food that’s good for you and the planet.

Victor Harbor Evening Branch at the Encounter Celebration Festival

Presented by the South Australian Country Women’s Association, commemorate the encounter of Matthew Flinders and Nicholas Baudin with baked goods and sweet treats from the SACWA Victor Harbor Evening Branch stall at the Encounter Celebration Festival.
